The phenomena of people declaring & presenting themselves with various titles, claiming to be experts on dog behavior, is hurting the dogs These people, with their play-acting in front of the media, connections and an entire support system designed to promote and brand them. They take all of the above and transfer erroneous and incorrect information to the public in regards to dog behavior and how to deal with them. They possess very little solid information, if at all, as to dog behavior. A new trend being presented by these so called trainers is that dogs are not to be trained for obedience. This is probably due to the fact that they are unable to train the dogs and therefore are attempting to hide their own inadequacies.
Various so called training films are uploaded to the internet. Recently one was brought to my attention, where a rather easy spoken person, an excellent performer, is passing on very wrong, even ridiculous information.
These illusion artists are after your money. They will tell you everything you want to hear. Pay attention to events in the following video, which resulted in severe injuries to two children and the dog being put down. This South African "dog whisperer" is a representative of a group very irresponsible individuals. He has multiple "diplomas" and "certificates". He is a popular television star, a master at passing on unsubstantiated information. Like another one of these so called trainers, he also travels on roller blades, as he spreads disinformation on dog training and dogs. The South African public accepted his mumbo jumbo with passion, until these, and other, "accidents" occurred.
Last year this whispering to dogs "clown" sat down at a restaurant together with his dog, trained as a "service dog" (god knows what requirements and tests apply to "service dogs" in South Africa).
This occurrence was captured on tape via a security camera. A small girl passes by the dog and without any provocation from her, the dog viciously attacked her. The "whisperer" was unable to "whisper" to his dog off the girl and only after a while are the other diners at the restaurant able to release the girl. She was seriously hurt in the attack. Any person, let alone a "trainer" releasing such a dog into the public, unleashed and without a muzzle, should not own a dog.
Unfortunately this is not the end of the story. The same "whisperer" with his dog had another incident on January this year. He took his dog to the beach, again unleashed and without a muzzle. The dog attacked a 2 year old girl and ripped off a section of her led, miraculously not causing neural damage.
The "whisperer" had to terminate his dog following this incident. In response he said: "The girl will not have permanent scars". When asked about psychological implications he said: "most children are afraid of dogs". A disgusting and stupid response. He added that he does not know why the dog acted as such. Yes, quite a "dog whisperer ". His game is to sell and tell stories, not to know and understand.
Training dogs is a very complex and complicated process. Please make sure you approach serious and knowledgeable trainers, not entertainment stars. Dogs do not change their innate character. It is suggested that you further read on the "Q" theory I developed. Per the new Dog Breading & Training Theory, there are no bad dogs, only dysfunctional, self proclaimed so called trainers.
